Manti Te'o to be interviewed by Katie Couric

Written By The USA Links on Sunday, 20 January 2013 | 14:52

Katie Couric will have the first televised interview with Manti Te'o, the All-American linebacker who has claimed to be the victim of an elaborate "catfishing" hoax. Couric's interview with Te'o and his parents, Brian and Ottilia, will air Thursday on "Katie," Couric's syndicated talk show that premiered in September.

Couric will preview the interview on several ABC News programs, including "Good Morning America" and "Nightline."

Te'o sat down Friday evening for an off-camera interview with ESPN's Jeremy Schaap, with details from that conversation then released on SportsCenter and ESPN.com. ESPN issued a transcript of the interview on Saturday.

While admitting to tailoring certain aspects of his story, including telling his father that he had met Lennay Kekua, Te'o claimed during his ESPN interview to have never had any part in the hoax.

He told Schaap that he was not convinced that Kekua did not exist until Wednesday, when Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the individual allegedly behind the hoax, contacted Te'o to confess and apologize.
